Ok, so I know few people here will care, but I have to rant. I'm a big Packers fan and the Monday Night Football game last night was a travesty of officiating. I'm not just talking about that final play (though I will get to that), but the game as a whole, on both sides. Players being called for fouls that were nonexistent and then not being called for obvious infractions. The whole thing was a crap shoot, maybe they'll call something in one instance and then two plays later not call the same infraction or visa versa.
It really looks like the referees have no idea what they're doing out there half the time. That being said, it's not really the referees' fault, they're clearly not ready to officiate at this level, there's no way they could have been up to speed at the beginning of the season. One would hope that they would get better week by week, but they seem to be getting worse if possible. What I don't understand, is how the owners and the NFL can continue to stand behind this decision instead of doing everything possible to bring back the regular refs. We're talking a matter of millions when the NFL brings in billions, it's pocket change to them. Is it really worth it to have fans watch the games and say to themselves, this is a joke. When you're just laughing and shaking your head at the lunacy why bother watching at all. After last night's game, I don't know that I will bother anymore.
Finally, in regards to the final play, AAAAARRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH, WHAAAATTTT!!!!!!!!!! What freaking game were the refs watching?! How do you not see Tate push Sam Shields down like they're playing football on the playground? How do you not see that Jennings clearly has possession of the ball, it isn't 'tie goes to runner' if the other person only has one arm in, that's not possession. Frankly, the game should have been over a minute before when the Packers intercepted and then had it overturned due to roughing the passer. Are you kidding, roughing the passer, where? Just thinking about this game makes the bile rise and fury ignite. Enraged and incensed and there's nothing I can do about it except come here and rant. I know this probably isn't the forum for it, but if you're as pissed off as me please call NFL commissioner Roger Goodell's office and tell him how you feel (212) 450-2027!
